Elvin Lufele is a PhD student with the Menzies School of Health Research, Charles Darwin University. He is supervised by Dr Holger Unger (Menzies), Dr Anna Maria van Eijk (Liverpool), Dr Sophie Pascoe (Menzies), Assoc Prof Kamala Thriemer (Menzies), and Prof Stephen Rogerson (Doherty). His project will evaluate the user and provider acceptability to the provision of sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine plus dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine for intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy in a randomized clinical trial in Papua New Guinea, evaluate the impact of chemopreventative and screen and treat strategies on gametocyte carriage in pregnancy and  determine factors that hinder or allow pregnant women attendance to antenatal care early in pregnancy in malaria-endemic regions.
