Dr Gaoqian Feng conducted his research and obtained his PhD on Malaria in Pregnancy at the University of Melbourne. He joined Burnet Institute in 2011 to continue his research on immunity against malaria with Professor James Beeson. Gaoqian is experienced in developing and performing immunoassays to study both erythrocytic stage and pre-erythrocytic stage immunity. Currently his research is focused on the cellular and humoral responses against sporozoites. He has established platforms to study opsonic phagocytosis in neutrophils and monocytes using antigen coated fluorescent beads and investigating antibody-FcγR interaction in malaria using an adapted ELISA based high-throughput method.
With ACREME Gaoqian works on possible protective immune mechanisms that can be induced by vaccination against sporozoite invasion.
