Jo-Anne Chan

Jo-Anne Chan is a postdoctoral scientist working in the laboratories of Dr Michelle Boyle and Prof James Beeson at the Burnet Institute. Her current research focuses on understanding naturally acquired immunity to malaria, with a particular focus on the transmission stages of P. falciparum. Recently, she has been investigating how antibodies are induced following a malaria infection and identified the key subsets of cells that govern antibody production. Her work includes the screening of serum samples from malaria-exposed children and adults, obtained from key study sites in Africa and Papua New Guinea.

Within ACREME, Jo-Anne will lead projects utilising controlled human malaria infection models, in collaboration with QIMR-Berghofer, to investigate early immune activation that correlate with human antibody responses that protect against P. falciparum malaria.
