Merryn Roe

Profile

Merryn is a PhD candidate in the Malaria and Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group at the Burnet Institute, supervised by Professor Freya Fowkes, Professor Julie Simpson (University of Melbourne), Dr Katherine O’Flaherty, Dr David Price (University of Melbourne) and Dr Aung Pyae Phyo (MORU & Wellcome Trust). Merryn’s PhD utilises data and samples from a multinational randomised controlled trial of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) in the Greater Mekong Subregion to investigate the impact of MDA on naturally acquired immunity and epidemiological patterns of detected and undetected malaria. She is focusing on the immunological effects of mass drug administration for malaria in Cambodia and Laos and associations between antibody responses and spontaneous clearance of asymptomatic malaria infections.
