Pengxing Cao

Profile

Dr Pengxing Cao is an applied mathematician with expertise in modelling within-host malaria dynamics and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) of antimalarial drugs. The aim of mathematical modelling is to develop accurate mechanistic models to capture the data from in vitro assays or clinical trials and predict more efficient treatment strategies to guide the design of clinical trials and novel regimens. His research interests also include mathematical modelling of within-host influenza virus dynamics and intracellular calcium dynamics. He is a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Melbourne. Within ACREME, Pengxing will develop methods to estimate key parameters in within-host parasite dynamics and drug action based on clinical and in vitro data and in turn more accurate PK-PD models to predict optimal treatment of malaria.
