Dr Rob Commons is an Infectious Diseases Physician who completed his PhD with Professor Ric Price through Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin and was co-supervised by Prof Julie Simpson from the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne and Dr Kamala Thriemer from Menzies. His current research focuses on identifying improvements in the treatment of P. vivax using a combination of data from retrospective and prospective clinical studies. Affiliated with the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN) he is undertaking large scale individual patient pooled analyses to investigate the dose effect of schizontocidal drugs and primaquine on the risk of vivax recurrence and the haematological response. In addition, using data from large multicenter prospective studies he is assessing the cumulative risk of anaemia with repeat vivax infections.
