Sumudu (Sumi) Britton is an Infectious Diseases physician and a post doctoral research fellow at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute (QIMRB). Sumi commenced her research career in 2011 as a visiting scientist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine until her return to QIMRB. In 2016, she completed her PhD into optimising Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) as a high throughout molecular platform for improving diagnostic tools for the purpose of malaria elimination with a particular focus onĀ Plasmodium vivax. Her post doctoral research has continued along a theme of diagnostics, in particular understanding how the dynamics of plasmodium biomarkers through the course of infection informs use of RDTs and exploring new tools to improve malaria diagnostics for the purpose of malaria elimination.
