Epidemiological modelling for malaria elimination

Project Description

Mathematical models of transmission provide a framework in which to evaluate the likely impact of novel diagnostic, surveillance and treatment strategies. This research program combines state-of-the-art transmission models with multiple data streams on diagnostic performance, novel surveillance strategies and treatment efficacy. Population genetic data, used to identify local transmission zones, will be used to develop spatially resolved transmission models, assisting elimination efforts through integration with spatial decision support tools. To understand the evolution and population-level impact of resistance, this project will integrate ACREME’s research on within-host models of infection and treatment with population level models of transmission.
