Sarah Auburn receives Georgina Sweet Award

November 11, 2019

Congratulations to Sarah Auburn on being awarded a Georgina Sweet Award for Women In Quantitative Bioscience, in recognition of her ground-breaking research on P. vivax genomic epidemiology. Sarah is a malaria senior research fellow at the Menzies School of Health Research, Darwin.

The awards ceremony was held on 14 October 2019 at Bio21 Institute, Melbourne. The Georgina Sweet Awards for Women in Quantitative Biomedical Science were created by Professor Leann Tilley as part of her Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship program to promote and support female scientists who demonstrate excellence in the area of Quantitative Biomedical Science.

Sarah’s work is focussed on utilising information on the genetic make-up of the malaria parasite Plasmodium vivax to gain insights into the biological mechanisms underlying antimalarial drug resistance, and to monitor the parasite’s transmission dynamics within and across borders.
