Treatment and Prevention

Mayeta Clark 2015

Description

The rapid spread of drug-resistant malaria is a major obstacle to eliminating malaria in the Asia Pacific region. ACREME is developing tools to monitor the efficacy of current malaria drugs and accelerating the development and deployment of new treatments. In our human challenge studies, we will test new malaria drugs or drug combinations in healthy volunteers. Using samples from these volunteers, we will use cutting edge pharmacokinetic modelling of drug concentrations to help discover the most potent drug dosages and combinations for future patient use. ACREME will investigate how malaria immunity affects risk of infection, clinical disease, and treatment outcomes. We will work with policy makers and healthcare providers across the region to optimise delivery of antimalarial drugs and maximise access to treatment.
